“Funny aneurysm moment today at work…
Long story short, mentioned I was working on a prop commission for a scythe (Artemis from Vampire Knight, f.y.i.) blah blah blah & then I mentioned anime. Promptly, said co-worker mentioned me being a weirdo.
…So, me getting *PAID* for a hobby makes me a weirdo..? Never mind if I actually had low self-esteem & that sent me over the edge & I freaked out on the spot, cut my wrists, or, you know, DON’T PAST JUDGMENT SO QUICKLY/YOU COULD HAVE JUST SMILED & NOD. No, just “you’re a weirdo.”
I should have really bit into her a$$ about it, HOW F’ING EVER, since this Saturday will be my last day at this job (’cause I can’t stand retail B.S. & it’s just time for me to take a flying leap into the unknown vs. my soul slowly dying for chump change [@ least pay me more + benefits for slowly killing my soul X/]) with her most likely being one of the ones that won’t realize I left until I’ve been gone for several weeks, it would be a pointless fight wasted on the ignorant.
Moral of the story, I don’t care about “fandom pride” & all this useless ‘never mind you have to work with these ppl.’ nonsense, if they’re the lay folk, just lie through your teeth until they shut up ~.~
To take this a step further, you really shouldn’t criticize or, namely, insult people for niche hobbies they may have/doing something you don’t do simply due to the fact that you don’t know what may be someone’s berserk button, what may send someone over the deep end, &/or if this is a really touchy issue for them that is the cause for their low self-esteem/confidence (which you may not have picked up on). I mean, I know others may peruse some of my other rants & notice that I’m not that type of person, but a stranger wouldn’t know this, so, basically, why be a d*ck when you don’t have to & you don’t know where the other person is coming from (& if you’re just co-workers, you don’t know them; end of discussion)?
You essentially alienate someone you could have been good friends with or that you were building up a good report with and single- handedly ruined what could have been a beautiful relationship. In other words, it doesn’t make sense no matter how you look at it & it’s extremely rude.
Again, this is beyond “You were insulted b/c you like anime, now you’re having a b*tch fit,” heck, it sounds worse online than how I actually feel (being emotional online..?) ’cause I sure as hell wasn’t letting one ignorant person ruin a pretty fabulous day, but the main point is to not past judgment on others so quickly (& definitely not to their face) ’cause it’s just bad manners, rude as hell, completely unnecessary, & potentially treading on super dangerous waters (that may leave you with a new a$$hole).
Keep this in mind when you’re playing unnecessary d*ck or if you know ppl. who do this…& don’t f’ing do it or stop whomever is doing it.
