Luka (Envy, 7 Deadly Sins Vocaloid series)
So, here’s the status:
(This is going to be a long status, you’ve been warned)
So, no panels accepted this Otakon around…>.> Real talk for a sec, on the one hand, it generally is hard to get panels accepted there regardless of presenting there in the past, that panel being relatively well attended & well received, & the like, but Chris’, at least have your FAQ section worded as such; i.e., assume you won’t get your panel accepted regardless & act accordingly. You would think you’d get *one* panel accepted from presenting there a previous year & having a decent ‘resume’ of panels from prior conventions, in which case at least one had great attendance, but not w/ Otakon.
After this year, Otakon’s going up on the chopping block like every other con I attend; no panels, no Date. I just can’t see me going to cons anymore & I’m not presenting *something*, not to mention, if all goes well, Anime Boston may potentially be replacing Otakon next year (emphasis on potentially AND I know they occur at different times in the year), but we’ll see. I may wind up attending both if timing & $$$ permits.
Also, I can not emphasize enough that I don’t think “Otakon’s crazy for not having my panels” or “How dare they tell me no! I’m the best panelist EVAR!”, this is me simply saying I don’t like going to cons w/ no panels & that this standard helps me cut out conventions (which helps the pocketbook). So you can cut that s**t out rit’ now.
In the meantime, since I don’t have to worry about panels, I plan to enter some items into the art auction (& hopefully gain back $$$ spent on the registration & entry fee), enter the Hall Costume contest for once (Date/Maximillian both deserve the maximum amount of time in the spotlight XD), & potentially add in one more cosplay, Megurine Luka as Envy from the 7 Deadly Sins Vocaloid series (pictured above in the fabulous red furisode).
For her, I plan to pull out all the stops for making her kimono (furisode specifically). Bought some legit kimono fabric being imported from glorious Nippon (that fabric getting here on time will determine if I do this cosplay or not), bought me a kimono kitsuke set (all the pieces you need to tie your kimono, juban, & Obi), bought me a legit obi, some zori, some epic kanzashi off Etsy, & enough fabric for both a nagajuban & hadajuban (may even do a 3rd layer just ’cause). I did a buttload of research in all the proper kimono parts, so I’m ready & rarin’ to go w/ this. I originally was going to do this for AUSA this year, which fits perfectly w/ the theme, still will, but I plan to debut her at Otakon 2014 on Sunday. So, I still have a lot of things I’m doing, it’s just Otakon isn’t going to be “the one con” now, that place was taken by Katsucon, since I staff there, so….YEAH BOI (@.@)
To keep track of my progress, like my cosplay page: dj Date Masamune: Sometimes U Cosplay, Sometimes U Don’t, I even recently posted some notes there about making kimonos & such (also includes some tips & tricks from a friend that’s awesome w/ kimonos).
Anyway, this status is way too long, ciao ^.^
Basically, of all the cons I go to, Otakon is usually the most expensive & knowing there’s ways to cut down on the cost; i.e., not going, & that I now go to multiple cons a year, it doesn’t really have that ‘specialness’ anymore, so it isn’t as big of a deal to just not go like it used to be. Regardless, it’s going to be the most epic cosplay line up for me this year, even more so than last year with the light show which was V. Mode Baldren ^.^
