Here’s my Facebook status that sums up my feels about Pacific rim:
“So, saw Pacific Rim…
AMAZING & VISUALLY SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To sum of this movie with mild spoilers, it’s Evangelion/Aquarion/G Gundam + Godzilla movies. Evangelion, the mech is the only thing that can deal with the huge monsters & some synchronicity aspect; Aquarion (dumbed down Eva), deals with multiple pilots having to merge mentally to pilot a giant mech, save it being 3 mechs into one with Aquarion; G Gundam, because the pilot(s) of the mech have to be standing & moving to operate it + the pilot(s) feel the pain of the mech; Godzilla movies should be obvious if you’re familiar with Godzilla style movies where there’s the much expected kaiju & the human concoction/Godzilla has to deal with it. Hell, for 5 minutes it even had some Shingeki no Kyoujin in there…just f*****g ‘cause.
Additionally, even though I paid freakin’ $17.50 for the IMAX 3D tickets, since the only non-3D showings were at 3:30p & 10, & I missed the 3:30p showing, the movie was worth. every. penny Although it’s already a spectacular movie, the 3D IMAX made it even better.
Now, if you’re one of those “I love intricate, convoluted plots” or “I don’t like testosterone soaked movies” types, DON’T F***ING SEE THIS MOVIE If you’re used to Godzilla movies, you should know there will be nonsensical plot decisions, plot holes to drive a tractor trailer through, flat characters, & just flat out “…wtf, wha~?” moments, which comes with the territory with movies like this. Save yourself the unnecessary whiny b*tching & just don’t see the movie, ‘cause I swear to Cthullu if I see one status of the “this movie sucked” variety for the above mentioned reasons, I’m punching you in the face through the internets ~.~ For the love of God, it’s an action movie, no freakin’ surprise if the plot’s a little meh & the logic behind such super questionable at best; that’s what action movies do. For example, I LOVE the Die Hard series, Fast & Furious series, zombie movies (like World War Z), etc., do these movies typically make a lot of sense? Hell no; are they still good from an action perspective? Hellz yeah. Same here; a whole lotta awesome, but definitely more than a few head-stratcher moments.
Minor rant aside, go see this movie. Heck, go see this movie in IMAX & pay that ridiculous price. Invite me to go with you (& I’ll f*****g do it if I’m not busy), just see this freakin’ movie. This movie’s so good I decided to write this instead of eating the delicious Chipotle that’s waiting in the kitchen for me & I haven’t eaten all day. That’s how freakin’ good this movie is.
Movie review over. I hope to God they’re making this a movie series, I’ll go see it in theatres for every freakin’ one.”
To add to this, it’s like a live-action anime done right, even though it’s not based on any particular anime, as put by Kyle Hebert. As far as I’m concerned, the world’s population should see this movie, because it’s that good & life changing. GO SEE IT >.<
